In this letter, I write:
You mean the millions on //e's out there? You mean the people that are still
buying NEW units?
You can easily reach all those buyers -- and get addresses and incomes by
geography. Pick up your local phone book and start calling every
high school, jr high an elementary school. I'd be suprised if more than
1 out of ten don't have at least 1 //e.
GS developers: Want an audience that's just dying for lowcost software?
Give me a call and I'll hook you up to just about every school in the
Chicagoland area. There's millions of //gs computers running nothing but //e
software because of lack of proper channels. These people take the mice from
their labs and put them in the closet because they get in the way!
"Oh, the GS is much better than the //e," says Mrs. Teacher. "We can read the
text in appleworks, and our MECC software looks great in color (double-hires)."
Whats gs/os? What's a hard drive? If you sell to education, you have to make
your 3.5 self booting or make sure it runs under Aristotle menu management.
Guys, there is a huge money generating market out there for the //gs, but its
not "net accessible." It's barely magazine accessible. They need talking spelling quiz programs and even simpler stuff. But these people
can't use a new unix programming environment (but they can use end-products
that would use GNO: like allowing several localtalked //e's run vt100
terminals off a gno server with a single 14,400 SLIP connection.
Possible? ((yes/no?))
I work for Midest Visual Equipment Co. (for now) as a
systems engineer (tech support). Our company sells only Apple,
and only to schools. If a chicago school wants to buy from
apple and get the ed discounts, they have to buy from us. They
also tend to buy from the same place they got their Macs and //e's.
Software is sold by the boatloads because these teachers don'tknow where
else to get stuff for the //e or //gs besides MECC and Midwest Visual.
Most teachers love the //gs. Some hate and despise them (the Mac wannabes)
Either way, they have to come up with a budget every year to keep the labs
going. Even if they get 80 new macs, the 3 //e's are still going to go
to someone's classroom. They'll never get rid of the ][ as long as it still
runs Oregon Trail and Appleworks. Appleworks add-ons were so hot because
schools just snacked 'em up and couldn't get enough of them.
Same reason Quality Computers will thrive.

Are there any shareware progammers for the ][ out there that
want to make some $$$ for writing SIMPLE, NEEDED programs for our ailing
education system? If so, leave me mail. If there's enough interest.
