Personal opinion... Supra makes a good inexpensive modem... the
Supra Faxmodem 144 LC.. available from Computability in Milwaukee
for $179.  I use an older version of this modem... it's been turned 
on for over a year now... it deals well with crappy lines, is fast,
has Caller ID, and (if we ever get software written (Hey, RICH!!!!))
will send/receive faxes.
