Hypercard GS: white text on black?

Ok, so tell me if I am being dim (and also tell me how to do it).

I have a card background with a black area.  I want to have white paint
text in it.  Can this be done?  If so, how.  

I can't use a field as the field will stay when a new card is created, but the
text doesn't come along. (Is there a way around this?)  I guess I could fill
in the fields on createCard (or whatever), but that is a bit of (should be)
unnecessary work.

Any ideas, answers, tips will be appreciated.
