BUT, It does seem that you will be able to buy Appleworks 4.0 without
previously owning Appleworks. Quality printed a price of $79 to
upgrade from Appleworks 3.0, which presumably means $79 for just the
patch. And they also printed a price of $169 for a 'new install', which
I am guessing means you get a copy of Appleworks 3.0 and the patch. Or
on the other hand they could sell you a copy of 3.0 with the patch
already applied.

I think it is correct that Appleworks 5.0 would be the first real
'rewrite'-upgrade. However, Quality said that the decision on
whether or not to actually go ahead and do Appleworks 5.0 will
depend on the response they get for Appleworks 4.0, so if everyone just
decides to wait for Appleworks 5.0, there probably won't be an
Appleworks 5.0.
