How can I restore my HD's directories?

Hi all,
 
The directories on both my HD partitions are damaged and I'd like to
get them back.  My HD won't show up on the desktop, and the advanced
disk utility nor Bakkup will recognize it.  Copy II+ seems to know I
have two partitions (S7 D1 & 2) but it gives me gibberish for a
directory on 1 and I/O error block $0002 on partition 2.
 
What can I use to try to restore my files?  Should I get the Vittese
package (I have bakkup) or would something like prosel 16 be better?
Someone said they used blockwork to restore a directory but I have no
idea how they did it.
 
Any help is appreciated.
