The problem was NOT my GS.  The modems would not work on my GS, my friend's
GS, or my Laser 128EX.  

Not only did the modems not work, but Zoom Tech Support REFUSED to help me. 
I had to go to the company I bought it from to get any help whatsoever.

It's stupid to make a blanket statement like "Zooms work wonderfully." 
Although I'm sure that those who use them are quite satisfied, it seems that
Zoom has a quality control problem (not to mention a tech support problem).
