That's just line noise...2400 modems are a bit more susceptible to
line noise than 1200 modems.

You probably have auto-answer enabled in your default modem settings.
Fire up your comm program and send ats0=0&w0 to your modem; this will
disable auto-answer and save the new settings in the modem's NVRAM.
