Re: VideoDigitizing with Visionary and Allison
Hello.. I also own/use the Visionary and Allison software from time to
time. Not many of us out there I don't think...
Being curious about current development I called LRO and talked to Larry,
which proved to be a dead end (in more ways than one). So, I looked at the
"manual" for Allison and it lists Scott Gentry as someone much involved in
the project and e-mailed him. His reply cleared up quite a few questions
including all the odd changes to the card- to reduce noize.
I also asked Scott about development and he mentioned being involved with
making a new ROM and software which allows consecutive digitization (ie:
what was formerly called 'Mini-movies' now dubbed "Allison movies").
When I asked about getting more information so I could do some development
(more like make a feeble attempt- heh!) he said that he couldn't say much
because of the contract with Alltech, but he did hint at some things to get
me started.
This may be an old .sig, so possibly has changed...

If you decide to write to him, but I think he may post on CSA2 or email
you..
I think it wouldn't be a bad Idea to know who all has a Visionary so that
IF anyone does any development we know how many people we're writing for
and could make certain they get a copy.
One problem I had with the Visionary that I easily solved (but had a hard
time pinpointing) was a Noizy power source.. I use a Vulcan hard drive and
the power it provided caused noize in all the digitized pictures I made.
Now I know that I just need to power my motherboard with a different supply
and let the molex from the Vulcan just dangle.
The only other trouble I have is from digitizing off of poor quality video
tapes.. (ones recorded with the fastest speed- puts the most on a tape). In
which case every other group of 4 columns is out of alignment. The first
four are a pixel off from the second four etc.. This is relatively easy to
fix in a paint program, just identify every other 4 columns and use a
marquee box to shift them down/up one pixel. This is of course a best case
situation, some digitized pictures not only were off every 2 columns but
also were a bit darker in every other 2 columns (so fixing it as above
still didn't help).
I have fooled around with the adjustment 'dials' on the card, so its
possible that one of them controlled sync- I don't know for sure but I am
positive that one is brightness and assume some others are RGB.
Good Luck! (lets hope for a speedy update! hehehe)
