Reading the disk directory from Applesoft

Hi!

   I'm writing a program which will need to read the names of all the
files on my disk.  I did see in the DOS 3.3 manual an explanation on how the
directory was defined.  Can someone point me to a site which would have
a program which would read the directory, or send me a copy of it?
Also, when a file is deleted, how does DOS 3.3 mark that it has been
deleted?
