I agree with you, Philip, that the IIe is outdated technology. BUT: BTM
and Number Squares are eductaional programs used in elementary schools.
Such instituations cannot afford Apple IIGS computers.

WE "power users" see a big difference in the two worlds, 8bit and 16bit.
But children won't be able to understand the difference between 4096
superhires and 4 color hires. When displaying simple text, black on
white, both modes do the job almost equally well.

As you can read in the press release, BTM can also be used as an
inexpensive message displayer in libraries, cafeterias etc. When you are
standing twenty feets away from a computer monitor, you barely notice
that you're looking at a monitor connected to an Apple II!

We shouldn't forget that not everywhere state-of-the.art technology is
needed. In some places old but cheap technology is sufficient - so why
spend extra money on features you will never need...
