     I dunno about your particular drive, but it's probably a matter of
the ID cable not fitting the connections on the hard drive.  I recently
replaced my 20MB unit with an 80MB unit, and there were several extra 
pins on the newer hard drive.  Since the ID cable no longer fit that many
pins, I just taped it to the case, and "hot-wired" the drive ID with
a couple jumper blocks.

     The following is totally from memory, so please forgive me if it's
not toally correct (just mess with it until you get it right).  On the
back of your drive is probably 5 pairs of jumper pins.  3 of these are
SCSI ID settings, and the other two are probably parity or whatever (I
really don't know), and aren't very important.  The SCSI IDs are numbered
in binary fashion, like so:

     : : : : :
     1 2 4 ? ?

By putting a jumper on any of these pairs, you give the drive it's SCSI ID.
Other values can be invented by jumping more than one pair, for instance
an ID of 5 can be made by jumping pair 1 and pair 4 (1+4=5).  No jumpers at
all gives the drive an ID of 0.  A single hard drive in a system should
probably be given ID 6.  ID 7 is usually the computer itself, and ID 0
is usually for removable-media (tape drive, floptical, etc..).  By con-
vention, a CD-ROM drive is usually ID 2.

     The SCSI ID cable is convenient, because it allows you to change the
ID simply by flipping the dial, but it isn't necessry to be hooked up.
