Re: IS the FTA still Shareware?
One more comment on sending shareware fees to the FTA...
In France, banks charge an outrageous service charge to cash US checks, and
for that reason, the FTA never cashed them. Last year, after Olivier
Goguel's 2nd visit to beautiful California, he sent me several hundred
dollars worth of checks made out to the FTA, and tried to cash them for him.
Not too much luck with my friendly local banker. As it was, Dr Tom (yes, the
Dr Tom) opened up a bank account in San Francisco, and the account had thre
name FTA. He was able to get all of $27 for the $300 or $400 in US checks.
The point of the story is don't send Olivier a check. Cash, well wrapped up,
should work, or an International Money Order. Even with an International
Money Order that I spent $10 (or was it $20) for, my last donation to the
FTA got dinged with a 40% service charge when The Gog went to cash it.
To tell the truth, I'm not really sure of the best way to send money to
France.
