CONTRAST-ENHANCEMENT BOX FOR GREEN MONOCHROME
MONITOR II WANTED!
=============================================
My first IIe is a "middle IIe" built in late 1984: beige color, black
characters on brown keys, with a beige case monochrome green monitor. The
video output was not the RCA phono jack on the rear panel. Instead, it is
from an "RF modulator" that is attached to the inside of the casing. The
RF modulator plugs into the motherboard, and it has two RCA jacks. One of
the two jacks gives RF output (to use a standard TV set as a low-acuity
monitor), and the second jack gives an ENHANCED CONTRAST output for the
Apple Monitor II.
What is meant by ENHANCED CONTRAST? The background is very dark -- virtually
black --- while the characters are very bright and sharply focused. This
gives perfect viewing, in my opinion. I do not know the brand name of the RF
modulator; the glue has obliterated the characters on its small casing (approx
1" x 2" x 1/2")
I am also using a Monitor II at my college office with my (personally owned)
IIc, but I cannot achieve the same perfect contrast with that monitor as I
can with the home system. If I turn up the brightness or contrast controls,
the background becomes a pale bright yellow instead of the sharp contrast that
I prefer. If I leave the brightness low, then the background remains suitably
dark but the characters remain very dimly lit.
The fault is not with the monitor; If I switch monitors with the home system
the contrast looks good when the signal is piped via the RF modulator. Also,
the IIc does give an excellent clear high contrast image with its IIc 9"
screen.
Does anyone know where I may obtain a contrast-enhancement RF modulator which
could be inserted between the computer and the monitor?? I will not be using
the RF function but only the image enhancement at the standard monitor
frequency. I know that the IIc 9" screen will give a great image but I prefer
the 12" monitor screen size. Stephen Buggie sebugg@presby.edu
