The saga of can't get there from here .. Well, it turned out that I had to dig out a 400K drive and attach it to the motherboard on an LC III, after tearing the drive down to the least amount of pieces possible, and starting over. The thing is, I have a really nice working 400K drive .. for next time.
Or maybe not.I've only seen about three, and they were all stuck up badly. Through disuse, the lubricant would dry up, and things would jam. You'd inadvertently put a floppy in the drive, and since things didn't move
easily, you'd knock off the little plastic button with a bit of foam that sat on the side where there was no head (the pressure pad, and it came out easily because it was intended to be easily removed). Lose the pressure pad, and you're stuck. So if the drive dries out before you use it again, there'll be problems. The later double-sided drives dry out too, but there's nothing to knock out. Michael
