Re: RFD: Integration of alt.emulators.ibmpc.apple2 into c.s.a2

Wow! A spontaneous RFD.

I am the person mentioned, who posted a message in a.e.i.a2 last Wednesday
asking if there was any interest in a discussion. I was going to wait
out the week and post a summary of the responses. Looks like the
discussion has started.

I got FIVE messages saying a "comp.emulators" would be a great thing.
I got THREE messages saying the status quo should be left in place.
(^-- including the one response tto the CFV posted today)

And I got ONE response that just warned away from the comp.sys.apple2
hierarchy, since it is very heavily loaded, while our emulator group
is slow and could get overwhelmed.

Note, please, this was not a "vote", either for a group action or for
my opinion. I asked if there was interest, because I would be willing
to put in the legwork for a group's creation.

I did not get any indication at all that there is interest in joining
the comp.sys.apple2 hierarchy; actually, counting that last message,
the total is negative one.

I *did* get the idea that people who like emulators for emulation's-sake
feel that aeia2 is not a good forum for that. I'd hoped that would
not happen, and hoped that emulation techniques would be just as present
in the group as discussions of individual emulators. It is true that
the group has been more a user group than a developer's forum.

--------

Two action items I may consider (for myself, that is):

1) We might benefit from making the group available as a mailing list.
If one cannot get their sysadm to carry the group, this may help.

2) I won't be in the lead for a comp.emulators group, but will support
it if someone else takes the lead. If the interest is there, it
   can be made to happen.

--------

Finally, I think it's VERY important to point out that the vote due
from next Tuesday to the 27th is for/against the comp.sys.apple2
reorganization as specified in an old CFV. It should have nothing
to due with this RFD.
