Then it should have been stated that "To the user, FV appears to be sluggish"
or something. I'm not going to waste bandwidth by posting any more to this
thread. People, just shut up already.

This has nothing to do with Shane at all. Shane was stating that QuackDuck has
a IIGS. Shane, running METAL on a IIE is irrelevant and useless. Therefore,
the comment that you made shall be piped directly to /dev/null.

(And if you want to know the truth, Shane HAS seen METAL run on IIE's. There
is a IIE based METAL/FV system in his area code.)

Ohh shit...here we go again. People posting what they are not familiar with.

The ACOS msg file format and the METAL SMF file format access at roughly the
SAME SPEEDS!

WHY?

ACOS packs the MSG file on writing and unpacks it on reading.

METAL doesn't do this, but has about 10 more things to cycle through.

Net equivalent is that they BOTH are about the same on access times. METAL
SMF files have the advantage of being able to store binary information where
ACOS msg files cannot. Plus, METAL can do true compaction on the SMF files.

And to all those weenies getting ready to reply. DON'T! I'm sending cancel
messages to alt.config to remove ALL traces of this thread. I'm sick of
listening and wasting my time on it. If you have a legitimate bitch, gripe or
compliment about METAL, take it to alt.bbs.metal.

If you can't get it in your area, then ASK your system administrator about it.
I'm sure that they will be nice enough to grab it for you.

Legitimate METAL support is available on both AOL and Genie as well.
