I am having one heck of a time trying to get metal up and running. Will
someone please help. First I FTP'd all the metal/FV files from
babbage.cba.csu.ohio, zmodem'd them down to my machine, unpacked them to
their proper directories, got the system metal.system file with my own
serial number, configured the metal.config file for an apple IIe memory
driver, NoSlotClock, Parl Printer, etc, run metal.system.
Here is what happens....
Metal startup screen pops up, Hard drive runs and runs, Metal creates
subdirectory /workdir on my 1 meg ram card, clock and date come up on
top menu bar correctly, menu bar flashes a few times, get some wierd
inversed characters in middle of screen, machine crashes to monitor at
FF6F and displays pointers a=77 x=00 y=00 p=FD s=84.
Sometimes I can hit a ctrl-reset and metal places reset/quit options on
top menu bar. If I restart metal at this point, I get the title screen again,
then menubar comes up and says compiler (something) Pass 1 and a % of work
completed. Does this for a number of passess then crashes into monitor again
at FF6F. Additionally, if I choose ? instead of restart the menu comes up
at the bottom of the screen. If I choose any of the options metal crashes
back to FF6F and displays the pointers again.
I am pulling my hair out with this one!!!!!
