new to apple, purchasing an Apple II GS system.

I am purchasing an Apple II GS system to learn 65816 assembly.  What I'd 
like to know, since I'm completely new to the "Apple World" is, what 
programs should I get a hold of?

Is there any GS programs that play MOD files, VOC files, anything like 
that?  How about compression programs?

Most importantly, does any have a file transfer utility for use with the 
Super Magicom (like the sms.exe program or send.exe program for PC) that 
is something I *REALLY* need.
