dying iigs monitor

Every so often (though it seems to be more frequently) when I turn on my IIGS
monitor ("standard" 12" RGB), the screen is drastically "skewed". Turning it
off, waiting, and turning it back on, sometimes multiple times fixes it.
Anyone know what might be wrong?
