Syquest and P8

I had posted here a while ago about a problem w/my Syquest drive and ProDOS 8.
Usually, if I enter P8 with power on, but no cartridge in, P8 hangs.
Well, I have since seen this behavior repeat, but I have also seen P8 have
no problems with no cart (like everyone else reported) and I have even seen
GS/OS hang with no cart, though the GS/OS problem was recent and my Syquest has
had problems lately.
 
Anyway, I think the thing with P8 is that it depends if you are running it for
the first time or not. I _think_ its device scan is different the first time.
I'm gonna experiment with this after I get my Syquest repaired.
 
This is all with Apple DMA SCSI btw. I know the RAMFast handles this better,
but it's had how many ROM revisions? Around 20? (I figure 3.0a - 3.0l?, plus
all the 2.x and 1.x.)
