Brainstorming possible video board?

Hello everyone,
Here's an idea to make some wheels turn.  Would it be possible to make the last
megabyte in the GS's ram space a video buffer for a new type a video board that
would plug into the memory expansion slot.  By adding video to the memory slot
would bypass the old 1Mhz  bus and instead use a 2.8 Mhz bus.
I know you would be giving up overlaying graphics and such but ..
would such an animal be feasible and/or desirable?
