Umm, you aren't hooking up your 5.25 drive to a Mac were you? The Mac
doesn't support the 5.25 drive, with the exception of an LC equipped with
the IIe emulator card.

Ok, first of all you don't need a modem to transfer files, you can
accomplish this by connecting your Apple and PC via serial cable, and
running a terminal program on both machines.
 
Second, what kind of files are you transfering? Text files, AppleWorks
documents, programs? There are packages you can buy to do some of this,
like CrossWorks and SuperWorks. If you want to run an Apple II emulator
there are some available on some FTP sites.
