HELP, //c died, need fix!
Last time it was the monitor, and thanks to the net, it was fixed in a
jiffy. Now I think the //c has died. I need this machine for work and for
Problem: //c has been acting strange for the past year or so with symptoms
like a out-of-sync monitor (like one that has lost its horizontal hold).
However this was not the case. The monitor and RCA cable are fine. One of
the motherboard chips were the culprit. Solution unknown.
Last night, these symptoms occur again, but another thing happens. When
booting up the external 3.5" drives are not recognized. It gets to the
point of checking the internal 5.25" and then says "Check Disk Drive".
PR#7 says "AppleTalk Offline".
I think it might be one of the following chips (which were removed, pins
cleaned and reseated, by me): IOU, MMU, CPU. Should I just order new chips
and replace them? I saw a company listed in the FAQ as selling Apple
chips. Which one would be the most likely culprit? IOU for disk, and MMU
for video problems?
Please email responses, and I will summarize if requested to do so.
Thanks for your help!
