Help Wanted w/ Apple ][ --> IBM PC disk conversion

Please help. A friend has some disks of some word-processor files
(appleworks, I think) which I'd like to get converted to a PC. Even
plain ascii would be fine, though of course maintaining formatting
would be a treat.

My problem is in the physical transfer of the bytes. The way I see
it, I could either have a program which allows
my PC to read an Apple ][ floppy disk (I don't know if that's
physically possible, though I do have the same thing for Mac 1.44
floppies on a PC); or I could upload the files to my mainframe
account, then back down to my PC. For this I would need some
communications software to do the uploading on the apple side. My
friend had some communications software which got us connected, but I
couldn't figure out uploading for the life of me (I think it may only
have had ascii upload)... the comm software doesn't have any docs, and
is probably a copy stolen from somewhere. If someone could recommend
a shareware/freeware comm package for apple ][, that would do me as
well... though I'd also have to figure out a way to get the actual
disks (maybe such a recommender could send them for a *small* fee).

Anyway, please email if you can help me out with either of these,
please send me some email... I don't have any reason to read this
group normally.
