The impovements are noteworthy. There is an approximately 20% improvement
in code execution time for most programs. Of course, if some of that 20%
is inside a tight oft-executed loop, the improvements will be even better.
With loop-invariant removal and several other important real-world
optimizations, ORCA/C 2.0 has finally come even with some PC C compilers.
There are some bugs, but several of the beta testers for C 2.0 (myself
included) are continuting bug-busting efforts, and in turn Mike Westerfield
is continuing development on C 2.0 until March or April or so; that way,
bugs that we find will get fixed very soon and everyone will benefit.
