Re: NEED HELP WITH APPLE ][c
Hello! If you haven't already been told this....
1. New OS. If you know anyone with a Macintosh, they can dial up
the Internet and download a copy of the OS for the Apple from
Apple Computer directly. Internet address = ftp.apple.com.
Or, if you do not have anyone who has a Macintosh, you can try
the Boston society again and let them know you could not get the
first person to talk with you. They will more than likely give
you another person to talk to. :)
Lastly, you could be very sneaky and go to your nearby university.
Walk into the computing room where they have Macintoshes, go to the
help desk, explain your problem, and get help in that way. They
may tell you to get lost, but more likely they will help you. (I
know this because I used to be a help desk person.)
As a last resort, swallow your pride and go to your kid's school.
Tell them what happened, bring a couple of blank diskettes, and
have them make you a new OS disk.
2. The only memory upgrades for the //c that were any good used to
come from Applied Engineering (AE). I'm not sure if they are still
making the memory boards, but you can call them. They are in
Dallas, Texas. Just call 555-1212 to get the number. ;) If they
aren't making them anymore, then be sure to ask who is.
3. Almost any software will work with the Imagewriter (which is on the
//c). This is because the Apple computer uses a very old technology.
It is also a very simple technology. You simply select which slot
to send your information to and the printing starts. The default
print slot is the second slot. So to print you would do a PR#2.
From then on (until something causes it to change) all output is
echoed to the printer.
4. Yes there are cables for the Imagewriter to IBM systems. Check your
ComputerShopper magazine for them.
5. Yes there are printer drivers for the IBM which will run the ImageWriter.
You should call whichever manufacturer it is which created the software
to see if they have it. If not, then you will probably have to print
to a file and use another bit of software to send the output to the
Imagewriter.
I hope this helps! :)
