Re: Zoom modems/good or bad?
ALEFF:
I'm using a Zoom v.32bis FAX modem now.
its ok, except that when talking to the Supra on noisy lines the modems will
not connect, they drop carrier if you attempt a V.32bis connection. (you have
to use straight V.32 on noisy lines if you want a connection)
and sometimes it refuses to connect how YOU want (example, dialing using N0
mode should allow you to setup a V.32 connection while talking to the modem at
38400 and not using COMPRESSION, however the modem likes to insist you drop to
9600 bps) I usually just reset it and it listens to me.
I have had no problems using over longdistance lines to USR's I get V.32bis
connects easily.
if you have a GS and you are not using flow control you do have to program
EVERYTHING related to the flow control pins since the Zoom wont talk unless
ALL of the flow control lines are set to IGNORE.
for about $250 its a great V.32 and good V.32bis modem, plus it does do FAX.
