Hmm. I would think the recent swing shows that there's a great deal of
populism going on...

And that's precisely it, Mike :-) That's exactly what you'd expect
from the modernized peaceful nation with the most people; the
population of the US is at least 3 times greater than the next largest
western nation (I limit it to those because the politics are more
similar than different). Of course, you'd also expect a lot more
stupid people. Isn't it ridiculous how people confuse magnitude with
proportion ?
