Apple itself only reimburses dealers for entire mechanisms... Not just
pieces. This stinks because you end up buying an entire new drive for
one little bent spring or something.

When my head got damaged, I bought an old, cheap Mac 800K drive. If you
are careful, you can open it up, pull out all the little screws, etc...
(Don't stretch out those little springs!!!!) and remove the heads. Although
the ROMs don't work in the newer drives, the heads sure do! You might
need to lightly bend the flange (that moves the head back and forth as
the spindle turns) until the heads can accurately center on- and read
the tracks of existing disks.

I performed this operation over a year ago, and my drive is still healthy.

The question is: Can you use those IBM 720K heads in an Apple drive?
