On the Disk ][, I have repaired hundreds back in shop days, and never
lubed any of them. The do enjoy a good cleaning, of course. Clean
the platter, and make the rails as shiny as you can. Not sure if you
want to take it apart, but that's the best way..
The speed control pot is on the PCB at the back of the drive,
typically pointed horizontally. Pot is a 10 turn style, so you can get
accurate adjustment. Apple used Shugart and Alps mechanisms. They are
close in design. Shugarts typically have a colored platter, Alps is
white. And quieter because of the material.
I still have Disk ][ 001061 somewhere.
