Indeed, both my computer and I were fine and precious in 1991, when I
was still using my 1987-vintage 68020 system. Of course, by 1991 I had
added a 68882 FPU, 68851 MPU and 32-bit OS. Surely, I was an early
adopter of a minority platform.

This is precisely what made me an early adopter of multi-core
technology, ca. 2002. Even with no special software except the OS's
thread scheduler, the front-most application's event handling remained
responsive during compiles, updates, etc. Of course, the OS designers
have always found ways to use up my spare cycles; now they're using up
my spare cores!

I agree.
