It does seem to be clearly marked, but that may have been an error.
Usually devices packaged like this are typically filters/protection
devices (RS232/ParPorts), terminators (SCSI/RS422) or cross over
adaptors (RS232). These are common with machine room installations,
such as mainframe and server farms. For a DB25 style connector, there
are not too many services left they rely on this type of connector
anymore.
