Maybe. I went to four computer stores (the only ones I knew about within an
hour's drive) in August of 1980 and all four had both for sale. I ended up
buying an Apple ][+ from a little store that operated out of an old basement
in Princeton, NJ. Although the prices varied from store to store, there was
never a discount for the older model.
