Re: help diagnosing an Apple IIe, please.
Okay, I checked the ribbon cable on the drive. I am pretty sure I put
it in right to begin with (I am am experienced in working on computers
and I saw the red stripe) but I double checked and it seems to be
right. Yes, it is also in the "disk 1" location.
However, I decided to clean the contacts on the board itself since
they were very dark and dull looking. I put it back in and now the
drive rattles for a moment on bootup, the light stays stuck on red,
and the computer stays stuck at the Apple II logo. I've read
something that indicates I can break out of this with the reset key,
but I can't. Then again, I'm not sure the reset key is even working
because I tried it in BASIC many times in combination with other keys
and it never did anything. Anyway, I seem to be getting closer.
Oh.. now the monitor has developed a problem. It works fine
sometimes, then other times it gets a horizontal blur going on. I can
tap it on the side of the monitor and it will go away for a bit. Must
be a loose solder joint or something, but I've no idea where to look
for it in there. ANy known issues with that? It is the "Applecolor
Computer Monitor IIe" according to the sticker on the back.
