One of the boards (the one with a 6809 and a Z80) had a 56-pin slot with
the
bottom 6 pins plugged. Maybe that's an expansion slot. It looks like
quite
a bit of built-in hardware is scattered across the boards (floppy
controller, sound generator, the two aforementioned coprocessors, and
probably more stuff that I missed).
Hmm... The Z-80 with a 1771 disk controller.
Wonder if there is a TRS-80 hiding in there as well....?
That way you can access all the software for CP/M without having
to convert it, which at the time was apparently problematic for
many.
I always liked one article in Kilobaud, where someone wanted BASIC
for his Z80 computer, so he decided to get the extended BASIC (or
whatever it was called) for the original TRS-80, which was available
as an upgrade part in ROM. It was intriguing since of course his
original system did not match what was in the TRS-80, so he had to
come up with workarounds to deal with the differences, I think in
one case he just broke down and redid one bit of hardware.
