I'm not based in the US so it'll have to be somewhere/someone that
would be willing to ship to me here in Tokyo.
DIP jumper cables used to be quite commonly available from
electronics component suppliers, in lengths ranging from a
couple of inches to a couple of feet.
Here's one at Digi-Key for $4.33:

Thanks for the info guys,
The problem I find with Digi-Key (or Mouser etc.) is the price of
international shipping. I think they ship everything international by
FedEx or DHL which makes shipping a $5 part cost something like $40 by
the time it gets to me...Crazy!
Digi-Key was just an example--you must have lots of electronics
distributors local to you...

Yes, I know. Thanks
I just haven't been able to find anything in Japan (Akihabara) at all,
but then again searching for parts on Japanese web pages in Japanese
in not my strong point.

Maybe you can get a Japanese friend to help with the catalog search.

I tend to think of Akihabara as a "finished goods" market, where you
want a "component distributer" market.
