I have used Google, but since I got a gmail account
my address went out with the posts so the mail on their site is useless,
Here I can post with a bogus reply and posting address. Before G-mail
you could use you own address and once they verified it you can then
shut it off which is what I did.
I've used the same email address for many years, and always
display it openly in my posts.
I receive about a dozen spam messages a day, and they are
obvious from their "from" addresses and subject lines. I'd
say I spend about 20-30 seconds a day deleting them before
reading the "real" messages. (I "collect" spoof messages,
so I spend another few seconds on the one or two of those
I get every day. ;-)
So I don't find that openly posting my email address makes
much difference, or that spam is much of a problem.
Of course, I don't visit a lot of weird websites or register
for three things a day, either--but honestly, spam is not
enough of a problem to worry about.
BTW, I have several email accounts, all autoforwarded to my
AOL account, and my AOL filtering is "off". So if you say
that it's AOL filtering behind my back, then I say more
power to them--and you might consider AOL as a solution
to your spam problem. ;-)
