my address went out with the posts so the mail on their site is useless. Here I can post with a bogus reply and posting address. Before G-mail you could use you own address and once they verified it you can then shut it off which is what I did.

I've used the same email address for many years, and always display it openly in my posts.

I receive about a dozen spam messages a day, and they are
obvious from their "from" addresses and subject lines. I'd
say I spend about 20-30 seconds a day deleting them before
reading the "real" messages. (I "collect" spoof messages,
so I spend another few seconds on the one or two of those
I get every day. ;-)

So I don't find that openly posting my email address makes
much difference, or that spam is much of a problem.

Of course, I don't visit a lot of weird websites or register
for three things a day, either--but honestly, spam is not
enough of a problem to worry about.

BTW, I have several email accounts, all autoforwarded to my
AOL account, and my AOL filtering is "off". So if you say
that it's AOL filtering behind my back, then I say more
power to them--and you might consider AOL as a solution
to your spam problem. ;-)

I truly must agree with Michael on this one. My email is openly available here, as it is in many other locations. I get a dozen or so spam emails per day also, and I go through mine linearly, deleting the spam as I go. Believe me when I say that the more you fight it, the worse it gets, and if you absolutely need pornography, go buy it at the Adult Video and Book stores. ;-)))) I'm just kidding about the above, although alot of spam comes from those sites. I know, because I used to view quite a bit of porn, and also got quite alot of spam in those days. No off-color sites, no spam. What a strange coincidence, huh? ;-)
