I just downloaded the Cinemaware and Sierra demo 2IMG disk images and
the either Windows XP's unzip or WinRAR (I'm not sure which did the job
but it was probably WinRAR) had problems. I was told the Sierra zip
file was corrupt and it couldn't be unzipped and the Cinemaware zip
uncompressed without errors but the disk image wouldn't boot and booting
a hard drive image with that image in slot 5, drive 1, I got the dialog
saying it didn't recognize the file system and asking if I wanted to
initialize it. One other thing to mention, the file I got from
unzipping the Cinemaware zip file didn't have a file extension so I
assumed it was a 2IMG file and added the ".2MG" myself.

I was poking around in my Apple II archive directory on my PC today and
noticed that the Cinemaware_Demo.zip and the Cinemaware_Demo file that I
added a .2mg extension too were the same size (430 KB). I then changed
the extension of the .2mg file to .zip and unzipped that and got a file
named "Cinemaware Demo.2mg" which was 801 KB and worked fine.

It looks like that particular disk image was zipped twice.

I'd never even heard of these two demo disks so I'm really curious as to
what they are like.

I haven't been back to retry the Sierra demo but I did look at the
Cinemaware demo. Those guys sure could do some nice things with IIgs
graphics. Too bad some of their other games were never done for the
IIgs.

OK, this is what I've found thanks to testing on my girlfriend's Dell laptop.

Downloading the .zip files through Firefox 3 results in zip files that open in either WinRAR or the built in Windows XP zip decompressor. The folder containing the 2image disk archives appears as normal once decompressed.

Downloading the .zip files with Internet Explorer 6 results in the problems in decompressing the zips. WinRAR shows the corrupt looking file as several people have described. It's probably also occuring with IE 7.

I'll let the web developer know of this issue.

In the meantime, try out Firefox 3 (www.firefox.com) and your download problems and HTML rendering problems will be over.
