If you have a serial port on your G5 (would have to be a PCI or USB add-on
of some sort), you could fire up some comm software on both machines and
send files back and forth over a null-modem cable.  Back when networking
hardware was expensive, that's what I did.

Nowadays, I have the IIGS connected to the LAN through a GatorBox CS and
move files between the IIGS and a G4 mini through a Linux box running
netatalk.  The IIGS and the mini won't talk to each other directly because
the IIGS only supports an older variety of AFP and Mac OS X only supports a
newer variety, but netatalk supports both.

If you set up your Mac to dual-boot Mac OS X and Linux, you'd only need a
LocalTalk-to-Ethernet bridge (such as the GatorBox CS I use) to move files
directly between machines.
