Yes, but in recent versions of Mac OS X it doesn't let you do much more
than use an AppleTalk printer or find a server by name.

In particular, Mac OS X 10.4 and later don't support file sharing over
AppleTalk as either a client or a server. You can only use AFP over
TCP/IP.

Mac OS X 10.1 through 10.3.9 are able to do file sharing over AppleTalk,
but I never used it with an Apple IIgs. It works fine with Mac OS 9 and
earlier.

That's also one of my solutions. I have a PowerMac 8600 running Mac OS
9, which the IIgs can connect to via LocalTalk. The PowerMac can then
connect to my MacBook Pro via Ethernet, so it is a two step process to
copy files.
