Don't feel too bad--there was no way that train could have been stopped
(and lots of people tried for many years).

The equipment used in schools is a political issue--what seems right to
"most people"--not a practical issue: what works.  Of course, the same
is true for methods used in schools, people used in schools, etc.

I view this essential dysfunction of the educational system in the US
as the most fundamental problem facing the country--in the sense that
if we don't fix it, nothing else will be fixed.

We simply need to teach our children to be *smart* (and I don't mean
IQ).  Informed critical thinking is the *only* way to solve problems,
and the problems we face today are going to look easy compared to the
ones our grandchildren will face.
