Just an update here. I've come across the 2.4 firmware for the SVDs.
The 2.4 firmware allows you to write to the disk image in the SVD when
using it with the Apple II computers. In addition, from looking at the
code there "seems" to be support for the Altair computer but I have
not been able to test this.

If you're interested in getting an SVD 1 with the 2.4 firmware see my
auctions on eBay. All new orders will now include the 2.4 firmware.
