Re: SVD 1's on eBay

Hey, just curious but doesn't 2.4 allow you to write to image that is loaded vs. 2.3 which doesn't allow writing to the image?

Les,
I've seen the SVD's on Ebay...
OK... What's an SVD? And what's an Apple dongle? (I know what a dongle
is, but just not in this context.)

Rich,

To sum it up the SVD let's you run disk images on your Apple computer
without needing a disk drive. It's an electronic device that emulates
a disk drive. You upload your disk images to the SVD and hook the SVD
up to your computer just as you would a floppy disk drive and your
computer doesn't know the difference.

This has the advantage of preserving software for these old computers
by storing the disk images on present day computers, for example by
downloading the images to your harddrive, and allowing you to run the
software on your Apple or other vintage computer using the SVD.

The dongle for the Apple II is an interface between the SVD and the
Apple controller card. You simply take the 20pin disk cable from the
Apple disk drive and attach it to the dongle, which in turn plugs in
to the SVD. The other end of the 20pin disk cable plugs into your
Apple disk controller card.
