Mmm... I am not sure whether I agreed. At least my own experience shows that we need a way to connect Apple IIGS to a modern monitor. So the suggestion is: The card should have: - a VGA connector, which piped all graphics mode (especially Super Hires modes) to the VGA output - a new video mode (640x480 with more colors), for program that uses it - hopefully with QuickDraw modification or an additional tool Sounds like a new generation of SecondSight to me, but if it can be done for around $100 I am for it.
It almost certainly can't be done for around $100 in the way that SecondSight did it. What *could* be done is to convert standard IIgs video modes to VGA output, which many would find useful. Adding a new video mode(s) would be a problem for all the reasons I outlined. The last thing you want to do with a platform with few users is to split the tiny corps of software developers among incompatible alternatives. Besides, *kids* don't need so many colors to be happy--only *adults* need lots of colors! Look at the popularity of crayon boxes with only a dozen or so colors. ;-) -michael AppleCrate: An Apple II "blade server"!
