Well, now, the Super Serial Card wasn't out of the box for the Apple II,
was it?  :-)

Of course, like the Languarge Card and the Disk II Controller card, every
one and his brother -- including me -- had one, so it may as well have been.

Which brings us to the biggest difference between the classic Apple II and
the IIgs: The classic Apple II came with manuals and needed hardware.  The
Apple IIgs came with hardware and needed manuals.  ;-)

Seriously, I thought that 1) the SSC was limited to 19,200 bps.  And
2) The GS serial ports are based on the Macintosh SCC and not the 6551
found in the SSC.  But as I alluded to recently, hardware is not my strong
suit.
