Ok, I received my Highway 100 scan converter yesterday for use with a IIgs.
I purchased a gs --> SCART cable from Roger Johnstone, so the BNC --> SCART
cable in the Highway kit is a spare. Since SCART plugs are pure unobtainium
in the US, I'd like to reuse the plug from that cable for an Amiga/C128 adapter.

So, here's the question: How on earth does that plug disassemble? It's not
molded on and it has a compression style strain-relief that unscrews easily.
However, the shell is one-piece and I don't see any obvious places to push in
a catch with a screwdriver. Before I run the risk of destroying something,
does anyone know how to get the connector out of the plastic shell?

The plastic shell is in one piece, but is very thin on the end
opposite to the cable, the other side is held together by the screw.
The screw thread is actually two pieces. Unscrew it and gently pull
both parts of the thread apart. You may need some force.
But I'd suspect that cutting the cable is better: These plugs are of
very cheap construction, so you need to be very careful when
connecting new wires (you need to remove every pin). The SCART
connector seldom survives being reused in that way. Maybe you one of
the better ones, but at least the ones here in Germany are terrible.

Thanks! That was the ticket, indeed. The plastic connector body itself looks VERY susceptible to heat damage, like a cheap DIN plug. I will probably do my soldering quickly and carefully with the plug inserted into the back of the converter to keep things aligned. I have excellent soldering skills and a good low-wattage iron, so I'm not too concerned.
