The type of disks you want for use *without* a Superdisk
controller card are DD disks, since if a drive is marginal,
it may not work with HD disks.

It sounds like there is a problem with the drive, but it will
require disassembly and testing to isolate the problem.

It may be easier to simply replace the drive mechanism
at this point.  The mechanisms are quite plentiful in the US,
but I don't know about their availability in your area.
