I couldn't find my System 5.04 disk, but I tried System 4.0 and System 3.1 
(and of course 6.01) on my ROM 03 with no problems.  They booted just fine and 
even recognized the CFFA card.  I'm sure 5.04 is compatible -- it was
the first system disk with the TS3 load file, so it essentially was the
first system disk designed specifically for ROM 03 compatibility.

Is it failing with an error message or crashing into Monitor?  What error 
message is it failing with?

Have you tried a self-test?
