Correct. They can't be interchanged.

The thing I like about the Microdrive is, that you
can partition it randomly. Where the CFFA must be
32,32,32,whatever is left under 32 (128mb card used
as an exemple), the Microdrive can be any sized
partition up to 32mb for ProDOS and larger for HFS.
